Showcasing 50 years of MJF images, “The Art of Jazz” tells the story of the Festival through its graphic imagery and photographic moments, capturing the MJF experience through posters, program covers, and exclusive photographs dating back to 1958. “The Art of Jazz” includes images from each of our 50 years, a list of artists who have performed at MJF, along with a decade-by-decade look at the world and the Festival.
This previously unreleased live album features Louis Armstrong on trumpet & vocals, Trummy Young on the trombone & vocals (tracks 6 thru 8), Mort Herbert on bass, Billy Kyle playing piano, Peanuts Hucko jammin' on clarinet, Danny Barcelona on drums, and Velma Middleton on vocals. Produced by Jimmy Lyons, this album was recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival on October 3, 1958 (opening night).
